Why monitor a construction site?
A construction site concentrates expensive equipment on an open site that is often isolated and unoccupied at night, at weekends and during holidays. The main risks are:
- theft of materials: cables and metals (especially copper), tools, building materials;
- theft of plant and fuel from storage areas and plant yards;
- vandalism and damage to works in progress;
- fire, accidental or deliberate;
- intrusions and squatting, which also expose the project owner to liability in the event of an accident.

Construction site CCTV: what the regulations say
Filming a construction site is permitted, provided a few rules are followed:
- Inform the people being filmed with visible signs at the site entrances, stating that the system exists and who to contact.
- Limit the field of view of the cameras to the site footprint. Filming the public highway requires prefectural authorisation.
- Limit how long footage is kept: the French data protection authority CNIL recommends no more than one month, unless proceedings are under way.
- Inform employees and contractors on site, and do not continuously film a workstation.
